Essay 3 "Struggle for perfection"

Everyone struggles for perfection from the geeks to the average girl and even to celebrities. Everyone does not like their own bodies and always wants someone else's so called "hot body."
No body is content with themselves it is a known fact. The average girl wants to look like these celebrities like Paris Hilton and Angelina Jo Lee, yet these celebrities are never satisfied with themselves. No one sees themselves to be the best thing out there. Almost everyone wants to look like someone else. What is wrong with our society? Shouldn't people want to stand out even if they have something about themselves they do not like.

Many people struggle for their perfection because of the results of the media from magazines to televisions show. Everyday people encounter negatives attributes about themselves, especially girls because we are all into the magazines that tell about someones amazing body. For example, the Cosmo magazine always have the hottest or prettiest girl on the cover and wearing something slutty to show off their amazing bodies. Without even entering the magazine a girl would look at the picture and think to herself "Why can I look like that?" They bring their self esteem lower than it already is. Every magazine you look at tells you how this celebrity lost weight and how these celebrity eats. Yes, these advices are all good, but many people wander why they go on these diets to loose wait when in the average girls eyes they look amazing. The one that is struggling for perfection might look at herself and think "if these celebrities are trying to loose weight and look amazing, then something is seriously wrong with me." The fact is no one is happy with themselves not even the celebrities.
Another cause of girls struggling for their perfection is that there are tons of reality televisions shows that are suppose to show how the average person lives, but yet do not represent the average person. For example, Hills is a reality television shows that deal with average problems; however, they are not average looking girls. The media feels that these beautiful girls is what our society is all about and the media is very wrong. The media always picks the pretty girls, the slim girls, or event the double D girls to play parts in the reality TV shows. The media totally forgets about the average girl. So many people think they have to be like these celebrities to get attention like the celebs do.The media cause teens and adults to struggle with themselves and make them be materialistic, cause them to change their outer appearance, and even cause emotional disorder to themselves.

casual arguments part 2 dealing with cultural phenomena

One of my most interesting common cultural phenomena subjects if the iPhone. This new phone that apple is creating is stirring up a lot of tension for the consumers. Everyone is talking about it, and everyone wants to get the next big thing that Apple is producing. This topic is what many people are talking about these days especially between my friend groups. Many people that I have discussed the causes of the iPhone say that the consumers were waiting for Apple to create something new and exciting like they usually do.
Many think the main cause of the iPhone is that there are no products out there like the iPhone and everyone wants to have something that Apple makes because they are big on the market. Another cause of the iPhone could be that everyone needs a phone and there needs to be something new to a phone that is not already done before. Another reason that Apple may created the iPhone was because they need to create something new that involves a more complex technology and needed something to stand out in the economy more than lets say a blackberry. With more research, I could find out more causes of the iPhone.

Another interesting common cultural phenomena subjects if the popularity of American Idol. As a fan of this show, I have been listening and reading all the news the media is presenting on this season 6. American Idol has been one of the most talked about topic in many of my group of friends and even family. Many people feel that this season is not going like everyone wants. Many people are loosing interest because they feel like America is not picking the right people.
One of the causes of the loss of popularity of the American Idol show could be that many people do not vote as much as they use to or could it be the fact that people are voting on looks rather than their vocal talents. I know between my friends and I we are just getting tired of the singers that should be off that are not leaving the show. One good cause of the popularity of American Idol could be that it is probably one the most talked about season ever because of the disappoint throughout the season. This show is talked about on the radio in the morning and evening as well as in magazines. With more research, I could evaluate the popularity of the show with season 5 to season 6.

casual arguments

I finally got this website to work again. So here is my next post concerning casual arguments:

In the book Everything’s an Argument, Chapter 10 gives examples of casual arguments that deal with cause and effect arguments. The example explaining the arguments that begin with an effect and then trace the effect back to one or more causes is the example “Hollywood experiencing a record breaking slump in movie-going in 2005.” This example caught my attention because it concerns the targeting audience of the book. Most teenagers either in high school and college enjoy going to the movies because it allows them to see new movies and be in a more theater like atmosphere. Lately, many people have been having problems with going to see movies in movie theaters. So the book gave this example and listed possible effects of the movie theater industry slump. This example really made me start thinking of the reasons and I support all of them.

La Donna Beaty wrote the essay “What Makes a Serial Killer?” This essay was very interesting with all of its facts and statistics. I like the way she defined what a serial killer is and branched from there. She decided to define what a serial killer by using current examples. I like the fact of how she says that not all serial killers all the same; this was a good approach for the essay because she did not single a certain race out. The only weaknesses I thought was that there was so much information that I kind of got side tracked on certain information. When the reader started to talk about the genetic makeup paragraph was a little boring because of all the terminology, yet it was beneficial in the essay.

CQ Researcher:
Why is prison dumping grounds causing people to be mentally ill?
What are the causes of the libraries having hard times?
What makes Americans focus so much on celebrities?
What makes teens want to buy more?
Will the new regulations make it better?

What makes a Jazz Fest?
What makes today’s society gain weight more often?
Why do few Americans vote, even in major elections?
What makes women struggle for perfection?
What makes more people to carry on their education into college more now then ever before?

My question I pick to do further research is that “What makes women struggle for perfection?” I could do research through CQ Researcher and check out books that deal with this popular issue. I could read any girl’s magazine from Teen People to Seventeen to Cosmo to read articles or stories of true life stories that going on through our society. I could also look on the television because there is always reality TV shows that deal with this issue.
