I finally got this website to work again. So here is my next post concerning casual arguments:
In the book Everything’s an Argument, Chapter 10 gives examples of casual arguments that deal with cause and effect arguments. The example explaining the arguments that begin with an effect and then trace the effect back to one or more causes is the example “Hollywood experiencing a record breaking slump in movie-going in 2005.” This example caught my attention because it concerns the targeting audience of the book. Most teenagers either in high school and college enjoy going to the movies because it allows them to see new movies and be in a more theater like atmosphere. Lately, many people have been having problems with going to see movies in movie theaters. So the book gave this example and listed possible effects of the movie theater industry slump. This example really made me start thinking of the reasons and I support all of them.
La Donna Beaty wrote the essay “What Makes a Serial Killer?” This essay was very interesting with all of its facts and statistics. I like the way she defined what a serial killer is and branched from there. She decided to define what a serial killer by using current examples. I like the fact of how she says that not all serial killers all the same; this was a good approach for the essay because she did not single a certain race out. The only weaknesses I thought was that there was so much information that I kind of got side tracked on certain information. When the reader started to talk about the genetic makeup paragraph was a little boring because of all the terminology, yet it was beneficial in the essay.
CQ Researcher:
Why is prison dumping grounds causing people to be mentally ill?
What are the causes of the libraries having hard times?
What makes Americans focus so much on celebrities?
What makes teens want to buy more?
Will the new regulations make it better?
What makes a Jazz Fest?
What makes today’s society gain weight more often?
Why do few Americans vote, even in major elections?
What makes women struggle for perfection?
What makes more people to carry on their education into college more now then ever before?
My question I pick to do further research is that “What makes women struggle for perfection?” I could do research through CQ Researcher and check out books that deal with this popular issue. I could read any girl’s magazine from Teen People to Seventeen to Cosmo to read articles or stories of true life stories that going on through our society. I could also look on the television because there is always reality TV shows that deal with this issue.
