Trimble, Writing with Style

In the novel, Writing with Style, Trimble gives great facts and examples of how to allow yourself to be a confident writer. In Chapter 4, Trimble states the essentials of the importance of continuity and in Chapter 5 the essentials of the final tips for your essay. These chapters give good evidence of how the writer could strengthen the middle and closing paragraphs of his/her essay. The chapter I chosed to read was Chapter 11 on proofreading.
Trimble made me consider three important points to consider while writing my essay. One point was under the final tips of chapter 4. He stated "View each paragraph opener as a bridge sentence aimed at smoothing our way into the new paragraph." Sometimes it is easy to join paragraphs together, but other times it could be quit difficult. Trimble gives great examples of how to open paragraph for the writer to understand. For myself, it is usually hard to start my paragraphs off so it was very helpful for this chapter to remember the importance of opener.
The second point that helps me with my recent essay is the closing part of my essay. Trimble states perfectly the three imperatives how to close a great essay. One being focus on your main point (which may be your final point). Second, being gratify us with atleast one last new twist or phrase to make your point memorable. Third, end with emotional impact. These points helped me remember the importance of my conclusion paragraph for my essay 2. Reading this section of the chapter made me think twice about my topics in my conclusion and how to make a more emotional impact.
The third point that Trimble helped me with is what most students have trouble remembering when writing an essay which is proofreading. I also forget to read over my essay the last time to make sure there is not stupid mistakes. Sometimes I read it over once or twice and do not find anything, but then my teacher finds silly spelling mistakes that could of been caught when checking it over say three or four times. I have to realize that my paper has to be professional when handing it in, and that there should not be any mistakes that I could of found by proofreading.
Trimble's works helps me better prepare my essay 2 and revise my essay 1. I hope that my teacher and I will see the improvement.
